NDIS continues its roll out across NSW

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) started in NSW in July 2016, rolling out across half of the state. The rollout for the rest of NSW started on 1 July 2017 and the NDIS will be fully rolled out by mid 2018. The NSW government is writing to the families of children and young people with disability who currently receive disability supports in the rollout areas to advise how and when they will enter the NDIS. Aurecon Bridge Building Competition

The competition is open to years 8 and 9 students, with the opportunity to experience what it might be like as a future engineering student or a professional. On Tuesday, 1 August, year 8 students, Asmi, Georgia, Abby and I, went with Ms Ihnatko, to the Art Gallery of NSW to test out the balsa bridge we had built and designed over the past few weeks. Over two school days, Year 11 SRC members Abie, Rhys, Indiana and Sophie were given the opportunity to attend the Elevate Young Leaders' Forum at the University of Wollongong. The event allowed the students an incredible and unique chance to meet hundreds of fellow leaders from across the state. The forum featured group activities and guest speakers, including Morgan Koegel, CEO of One Girl, with an emphasis on the ability of small, independent action to make a big difference. NAPLAN Online School readiness test

NSW schools will participate in the NAPLAN Online School Readiness Test from 14 August to 22 September. There is a lot of information for schools, students and parents on the NAPLAN Online transition website. The school readiness test is a ‘practice run' for schools to assess their technology as we prepare to transition to NAPLAN Online. Over the last few busy weeks of term Caringbah's dance ensembles have been lucky enough to perform across the state from Penrith to Sutherland to Ultimo at a range of dance festivals celebrating the art form. All performances went extremely well and all dancers should be proud of their efforts both on stage and in rehearsals. Sydney Writers' Festival Experience

On Wednesday 24 May, a group of us went to the Sydney Writers' Festival at Roslyn Packer Theatre. The writers that we heard from included Sarah Crossan, Grabrelle Williams, Yassmin Abdel-Magied and finally Jennifer Niven. All the authors were amazing to listen to – Sarah Crossan showed us how poetry is truly a something that we can all love and enjoy; Garielle Williams taught us a cool way of coming up with interesting ideas for writing stories called ‘The Nine Squares'; Yassmin's talk had us laughing so much, we could not tell the difference... Worlds Greatest Shave - Amazing school video

Twenty one amazing students and two crazy teachers participated in the amazing Worlds Greatest Shave at Caringbah on Friday 17th March. With four Yr 12 girls Nicole, Chloe, Erica and Cindy having shaved their heads live on the Channel 7 Morning show on Thursday, Friday was always going to be epic. With the school director Mr Mark Barraket agreeing to be a "victim" the clippers buzzed to life and the hair was flying. The Federal Government has put together some fantastic resources for parents to support their child's learning. The high school section has information that relates to organisation, school life balance and how to support your child in a range of subjects. There really is some great information in a simple, easy to read format. As with everything 21st Century there is also an app for your phone or electronic device. Congratulations go to our Engineering students Anton, Billy, Zac, Thomas, and Aaron for winning the following awards in the National Titles for the F1 in Schools awards. Innovation Award, Fastest Car in the pressure challenge and Outstanding Industry Collaboration Our students were required to develop a 3D CAD design car; a marketing campaign and design folio; develop connections and collaboration with local industry. F1 in Schools National Championships

Our Engineering students compete at the F1 in Schools National Championships in Adelaide over four days. Day 1: Following an early morning flight, Nangamay arrived in Adelaide for the F1 in Schools National Finals. Day 1 composed of two short practice sessions, along with checking into accommodation at Adelaide Shores. The practice sessions revealed that our car would be competitive throughout the week (with a quickest time of 1.13 seconds over 20m), and provided us the opportunity to test our various Launch Energy Recovery System (LERS)... Introducing Healthy School Canteens

The introduction of the revised Healthy School Canteen Strategy increases the availability of healthy food and drink options in school canteens to make the healthy choice, the easy choice. It replaces the Fresh Tastes@School Strategy in NSW schools that was commonly known as the traffic light system. The revised strategy is consistent with the 2013 Australian Dietary Guidelines and classifies food and drinks as either Everyday or Occasional. Sugary drinks will continue not to be sold. UOW Engineering Competition Winners

Congratulations to our Engineering Studies students who have won major prizes in the state wide University of Wollongong STEM competition in Engineering. Students were required to submit a Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) project. These submissions came from schools all over the state. 2017 Resource Allocation Model funding

In October 2016, all NSW public schools will receive a 2017 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions.
